About Our Practice

Established in 1957, Image Eyecare is a third generation optometry practice serving the Port Elizabeth community for over 60 years. The practice Owner, Dr. Paul Ketz, is a pioneer in software research and development and has become recognized as an authority and clinical adviser to suppliers and many eye care professionals internationally.

The practice ethos of professionalism and care has improved the quality of life for many patients and are all staff are NCDFSA registered. Please note that this is a marketing demonstration practice and does not actually see patients

Comprehensive Eye Examinations

We provide a range of eye examinations. Having your eyes tested regularly can also result in early detection of a serious health risk. Our aim is to make clear and comfortable vision a reality for all our patients based on each patient’s needs

Visual acuity assessment and refraction

This test is used to measure the sharpness and clarity of your vision. Testing both your near and distance vision using eye charts and different lenses we can determine how to improve your vision.

Sports vision training

We provide specialized sports vision training designed to enhance the visual skills essential for athletic performance. This includes improving hand-eye coordination, depth perception, peripheral awareness, reaction time, and focus under dynamic conditions. Training is complemented by the use of specialized sports eyewear when appropriate, helping athletes optimize visual clarity, reduce glare, and protect their eyes during activity. Each program is tailored to the individual, ensuring exercises and eyewear choices support both performance and overall visual awareness.

Vision therapy

We provide comprehensive vision therapy aimed at improving visual function and coordination. This includes exercises and programs designed to enhance eye tracking, focusing, depth perception, and binocular vision. Each therapy plan is tailored to the individual’s needs, addressing conditions such as lazy eye, double vision, or visual processing difficulties, with the goal of supporting clearer, more comfortable, and efficient vision in daily life.

Color Vision Assessment

We provide color vision assessments to evaluate how well patients perceive and differentiate colors. This testing helps identify color vision deficiencies and guides recommendations for daily activities, educational needs, or occupational requirements. Each assessment is tailored to the individual, ensuring accurate results and practical guidance based on their specific needs.

Glaucoma Testing

Protect your vision from damage caused by glaucoma with regular, complete eye tests. A Comprehensive Glaucoma Exam includes the testing of 5 factors before making a diagnosis.

Skippers Licence Screening

Policy dictates that all candidates for the Skippers (Coastal and Offshore) are required to pass the prescribed SAMS tests carried out at a specific SAMSA office. All candidates attempting the examinations can provide an eye test certificate issued by us, a member of the Health Professionals Council of South Africa.

Pediatric Eye Care

Based on age, we can perform a number of different eye tests on young children. These tests include: colour vision, learning disorders related to vision, coordination, image perception, eye focus and eye muscle control.

Behavioral Optometry

Behavioral optometry looks beyond standard vision tests to understand how the eyes and brain work together in daily activities. We assess visual skills such as focus, tracking, coordination, perception, and visual processing — helping identify issues that can affect learning, reading, and overall performance.

Binocular Vision Testing

We provide binocular vision therapy to improve how the eyes work together, enhancing eye coordination, depth perception, and focusing ability. Each program is tailored to the individual, addressing conditions such as eye strain, double vision, or difficulties with tracking, to support clearer, more comfortable, and efficient vision in daily activities.

Low vision rehabilitation

We provide specialized low vision rehabilitation services. Accessing these services early can significantly improve daily functioning and quality of life. Our goal is to maximize each patient’s remaining vision and independence through tailored strategies and support.

Keratoconus Care and Management

We provide specialized care for keratoconus, focusing on early detection, monitoring, and tailored treatment plans. This includes corrective lenses, contact lens fitting, and guidance on interventions to preserve vision and maintain comfort, adapted to each patient’s needs.

Contact lens evaluation and fitting

Starting with an eye health assessment we can determine if you are able to wear Contact Lenses. Once you are cleared you are fitted and the particular types of lenses are discussed to determine the best option for your lifestyle.

Frame and Spectacle Adjustments and Repairs

From time to time you may want your Frames adjusted or repaired. Our skilled opticians can adjust the bridge, nose pads and temples to ensure the proper fit to your face.

Frame selection and dispensing

We have a wide range or frames from a variety of brands to choose from. These frames can be fitted with lenses to meet all your needs such as, indoor use, outdoor use, ready, driving and more.

Drivers Licence Screening

Save time at the Traffic Department and let us do your Drivers Licence Screening. You will need to bring a valid Identification Document (ID) along with you. Your screening will be done in co-operation with the National Department of Transport regulations to ensure acceptance.
